The speaker Mike Johnson said he trusts that “the CR will happen”, arguing “nobody wants to close to the government.”

“I do not think it is blocked … because nobody wants to close the government, and we are governing doing what is responsible as Republicans. It will depend on Chuck Schumer and the Senate Democrats to do the right thing, and I do not think we are going to close to the government,” Johnson said on Monday.

President Donald Trump begged the Republicans during the weekend to support Johnson’s bill to avoid a government closure.

“We have to remain united, without dissent, fight for another day when the moment is correct. Very important,” Trump said in a publication about Truth Social on Saturday.

The Chamber is expected to advance with a vote on the Financing Plan of the Johnson government as early as Tuesday without the support of the Democrats.

Democrats are not aboard the proposal, which means that Republicans need almost unanimous support. Johnson has no margin of error with his thin majority 218-214 and can only be allowed to lose a dropout if all members vote and are present.
