Trump appoints Fox News presenter, Jeanine Pirro, as the main prosecutor in DC

President Donald Trump says he will appoint the host of Fox News and former prosecutor Jeanine Pirro as the Interim Prosecutor of the United States for the Columbia district.

Trump announced the choice in a publication about Truth Social.

The selection occurs when Trump told journalists in the Oval office on Thursday that Ed Martin, who currently serves as the main interim prosecutor of DC, would not assume the position permanently after losing support among the main republicans of the Senate.

ABC News had previously reported that Trump was looking at Pirro in the post.

The White House did not immediately respond to the request for comments from ABC News. A Fox News Press Relations representative did not immediately respond to the request for ABC News, or Pirro comments.

Pirro has been a Trump ally for a long time, which dates back to his time as a prominent prosecutor in New York. She was one of the first defenders of her 2016 campaign and defended it publicly during the “Access Hollywood” tape scandal.

After the loss of Trump in the 2020 elections, Pirro promoted the false accusations of electoral fraud that involved voting machines and then was among Fox News employees appointed in the demand for the defamation of Dominion’s voting systems to transmit false claims about the company. Fox News finally made up of $ 787.5 million and admitted that the statements were false.

In 2019, according to the reports, Pirro was suspended by Fox News after questioning the loyalty of Democratic congresswoman Ilhan Omar to the Constitution of the United States, citing Omar’s Muslim faith.

Martin, who had been competing for becoming the main prosecutor in one of the offices of the most important United States prosecutor in the nation, has served as the United States interim prosecutor since the beginning of the administration, but its interim term expires on May 20.

Martin promoted the “Stop The Weal” campaign by Donald Trump in 2021 and was seen by the Capitol during the January 6 attack against the United States Capitol.

Trump said Thursday that Martin could serve in another capacity in the Department of Justice.

One of Trump’s final acts before leaving office in 2021 was to issue last minute forgiveness to Pirro’s ex -husband, a republican donor for a long time.

With less than an hour before his mandate finished, Trump granted a final indicator to Albert Pirro, who was sentenced more than two decades ago for 34 charges of conspiracy and tax evasion after it was discovered that he had incorrectly deduced more than $ 1 million in luxurious personal expenses such as a tax cancellation for his businesses.
