Luigi Mangione accused of federal charges for the murder of the CEO

A Federal Grand Jury in New York returned on Thursday an accusation of four positions against the alleged murderer of CEO Luigi Mangione who accuses him of two positions of harassment, crime of firearms and murder through the use of a firearm, a position that makes him eligible for the penalty of death if he is convinced.

Mangione is accused of stalking the Head of Health of United Brian Thompson out of Hilton in the center of Manhattan and then shoot him until death on December 4, 2024.

Attorney General Pam Bondi has already pointed out her intention to pursue the death penalty, that her lawyers are trying to actively stop.

Luigi Mangione, the suspect in the murder of the executive president of the UnitedHealth group, Brian Thompson, appears in the Supreme Court of Manhattan for positions of murder and terrorism of the state of New York in New York, on February 21, 2025.

Thompson was heading to an investor conference when he was shot dead. Mangione was arrested in Altoona, Pennsylvania, five days later and was initially accused of a federal complaint in relation to the murder.

Earlier this month, Bondi said in a press release that he ordered the death penalty for Mangione “to carry out the Trump President Trump’s agenda to stop violent crime and make the United States be safe again.”

Defensor lawyer Karen Friedman Agnifilo argued in a motion presented last week that Bondi’s statement, issued before Mangione was accused of federal positions, was inadequate and “harmed the great jury process.” He asked the judge to prevent the government from looking for the death penalty, and demanded that the government deliver documents and notes that will be related to the attorney general.

“The bets could not be higher. The United States government intends to kill Mr. Mangione as a political trick,” said the defense.

Mangione also faces state charges in relation to the shooting. He declared himself innocent.
